How environment plays important role in the distribution of population in basin area?

People generally avoid harsh climate ( either it may be very hot or cold). They also avoid hilly and deserted lands as they are not fertile so, no plant grows there, and people also feel the problem about transportation and water. People generally prefer land with moderate climate. Sometimes, they prefer the land with harsh or deserted climate because of its physical features such as Saudi Arabia for oil mines. But, people generally prefer the land near the river plains such as, Ganga - Yamuna plains forts fertile land, well transportation, suitable climate, agriculture, fishing, idustries etc.
