Industrial ethanol is more commonly synthesized by the high-temperature catalytic addition of water to ethylene (C2H4).  Solutions of 10 percent ethanol in gasoline (gasohol) can be used in most cars without any adjustments. Today, ethanol fuels are typically made from natural products, such as corn or sugar.

nazeeralishine: Ethanol is prepared on large scale from ethene by the addition of water vapour to it in the presence of catalyst like (P2O5) , tungsten oxide at high pressure and temperature.
nazeeralishine: Solutions in ethanol are often prepared in pharmaceutical industry. These solutions are known as tinctures. For example , a solution of iodine and potassium iodide in ethanol is called tincture of iodine. It is also used as an important are material for the synthesis of many organic compounds , for example, ethanol, ethanoic acid, ethanoic anhydride , esters, chloroform etc.

Ethanol, also called alcohol, ethyl alcohol and grain alcohol, is a clear, colorless liquid and the principle ingredient in alcoholic beverages like beer, wine or brandy. Because it can readily dissolve in water and other organic compounds, ethanol also is an ingredient in a range of products, from  personal care and beauty products to paints and varnishes to fuel. Ethanol is a natural byproduct of plant fermentation and also can be produced through the hydration of ethylene.
