Beneath the earth's crust, tectonic plates are constantly moving and grinding against one another. These tectonic plates pass through countries, continents and mountains and have been moving slowly for millions and millions of years and due to these movements, continents have changed their shape.
E.g. there was a time when Africa and India were connected by land but due to the movement of these plates, over several million years, the lands were separated.
Each year, these tectonic plates move by 2 cm, which seems very small but if you consider this over a 1 million years, it equals to 2 milllion cms !
