The last leaf is the story of supreme sacrifice because the Behrman sacrificed himself for saving Johnny and to make his masterpiece. He never think of his life while making the sketch of leaf, he only wants to save that girl, Johnsy.

I completely agree that 'The Last Leaf' is the story of supreme sacrifice,

because of Behrman's selfless act. Simply painting an ivy leaf on the wall would have been a beautiful gesture in itself, but taking the trouble to paint the leaf in terrible weather, while putting himself at risk is undoubtedly an act of supreme sacrifice. There cannot be a bigger sacrifice than giving up one's life to save someone else's, especially when that someone, Johnsy was unrelated to Behrman. Behrman was well aware of the fact that it was difficult to stay safe from pneumonia and that it can be life-threatening. Yet, he braved the weather to save Johnsy, but ultimately lost his own life.
