Answer:

The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic last week. Given the current spread of the disease, advisories have been issued to stay at home and do not step out unless absolutely necessary.

Social distancing is an effort to stop the transmission of coronavirus in large crowds in meetings, movie halls, weddings and pubic transport. To enforce the importance of social distancing, schools, colleges, malls and movie halls are now closed across states. People are being advised to work remotely and reduce interaction with other people to a minimum.

Many instances of social distancing violations have been reported across the country since lockdown restrictions were significantly relaxed from June 1.
Images from many parts of the country — especially major cities — are proof of social distancing norms being violated. While cases are already rising faster than before in India, flouting social distancing norms could worsen the situation.
IndiaToday.in spoke to two people in Kolkata who said social distancing norms are not being followed in many parts of the city after the lockdown restrictions were lifted.
They, however, said that the rush was higher on June 1 as many people reported to work after a long break. However, the limited transportation facilities in the city led to chaos and a lack of social distancing.
