let us calculate, x^2 + x- 2 =0  

so sum of roots a+ b= -1  

product of roots ab = -2  

so a- b = sqrt( a+b)^2 - 4ab ]  

= sqrt[1+8]  

= +_ 3  

a+ b= -1-----------------------(I)  

a- b = 3------------------------------(II)  

so a= 1 & b = -2and if a+ b = -1  

and a- b= -3  

so a= -2 & b =1  

1/a = 1 & 1/b = -1/2 OR 1/a= -1/2 & b= 1
