First of all, what's food security?

food security is the availability, accessibility and affordability of food to all people all the time.

three dimensions of food security :-

⏺availability - availability of food means, production of food must be within the country so that food can be available to all people everytime.

⏺accessibility - accessibility of food means, food must be within the reach. each and every people can access to food.

⏺affordability - affordability means, all people must have enough money to purchase sufficient quality and quantity of food. the price must not be too high.

Now, food security is ensured by the following methods :-

⏺BUFFER STOCK - it's the stock of food grains. FCI purchases grains from states where there's surplus production and store it in granaries. it's done to provide food to food insecure people at issue price. issue price is the price lower than the original price.

⏺PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM - next, the food stored by FCI is distributed by PDS (public distribution system).in this system, ration shops are opened in the country. ration shops are also known as fair price shops which keep stock of foodgrains and other things like sugar, oil etc. all these items are sold at a lower price. so the poor people can afford it.
