The faster you give up on this dream and find a new one, the happier you will be. The number of jobs in physics, especially HEP, is extremely small, and there are extremely strong odds that you won't be able to get your dream job in academia. But the faster you give up your old dreams, the faster you'll be able to find new ones. The good news is that if you want to do math for the rest of your life, you'll be able to find something somewhere. If you think of your Ph.D. as something useful in itself, then you'll be able to spend 7-8 years doing something fun, and you'll be able to figure something
