A lot has been written in poetry and prose, more so in the latter form, about the heart-wrenching tales of partition. Writers and poets have narrated tales of real life stories, as well as in fictional form, about the loss of lives due to communal hatred, displacement of people and forcible separation from dear ones. Due to partition, most affected have been the Bengalis and Punjabis, due to the carving out of their states, as a reason of which people of these regions have documented tales of woe in their own languages as well as in English.
Taking a balanced view of the two major communities, the Hindus and the Muslims, the more acclaimed writers and poets have expressed their sorrow and anguish at the brutalities perpetrated by hooligans from both communities across our land on the innocent people, who were mercilessly tortured and killed.
The prose and poetry did not spare the political leaders too, who were responsible for the dismemberment of a peaceful country. Even though Mohammed Ali Jinnah received most of the flak, politicians on this side of the border too could not escape criticism.
