Large scale development projects have led to significant loss of forests:
a. Projects like construction of dams have led to massive deforestation. We may give example of Narmada Sagar Project in Madhya Pradesh, which is believed to affect 40,000 hectares of forest.
b. One may also give example of sardar sarovar dam, which besides leading to depletion of forest and has also led to increased displacement of people.
c. Narmada Bachao Andolan can be seen in this context, where the protestors are campaigning against such developmental projects which are leading to displacement of people, affecting their customary rights, leading to depletion of flora and fauna.
