Explanation:

Growing population : Growing population is one of the basic factors which is responsible for the scarcity of water. Most of our cities are facing this problem due to overpopulation. A large population means more water not only for domestic use but also to produce more food.

(ii) Industrialisation : The post independent India witnessed intensive industrialisation and urbanisation. Today, large industrial houses are common in the form of industrial units of many MNCs (Multinational Corporations). The ever increasing number of industries has made matters worse by exerting pressure on the existing freshwater resources. Industries, apart from being heavy users of water, also require power to run them. Much of this energy comes from the hydroelectric power.

(iii) Urbanisation : Urbanisation has also aggravated the problem of water scarcity. Most of our cities are overpopulated. Overpopulation leads to over- utilisation of the water resources, and also pollutes the existing resources

The growing population, industrialization, and urbanization led to water scarcity.

  • Industrialization: The development of numerous industries has led to a greater exploitation of the available water supplies. Water is used extensively in industry. Additionally, they pollute water bodies by discharging industrial waste and effluent there. As a result, there is a shortage of water and a decline in water quality.
  • Urbanization: The number of urban centers has increased nationwide. There are numerous independent, boring devices in many homes and housing societies. The water table has further decreased as a result.
  • There are numerous common environmental issues that are brought on by increased industrialization.
  • 1) It pollutes the water because industrial wastes are mixed with it and end up in rivers, ponds, and other bodies of water.
  • 2) It has an impact on both our environment and the water.
  • 3) There are many issues that the people must deal with, such as water scarcity, as a result of the rise in water pollution. As a result of everything, fresh water resources have been depleted.
