The artery is constricted as a result of an accumulation of plaque on its inner walls. In order to maintain a constant flow rate through such a constricted artery, the driving pressure must increase. Such an increase in pressure requires a greater demand on the heart muscle.

Explanation:

Bernoulli's principle states that at constant height , pressure is inversely proportional to the velocity of the fluid. Due to accumulation of plaque in artery , velocity of the blood through reduces , pressure exerted by heart is increased, this may result in heart attack.
