Collision,The Himalayan mountain range have formed as a result of the collision between the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate which began 50 million years ago and continues today. 225 million years ago India was a large island situated off the Australian coast and separated from Asia by the Tethys Ocean.
Plate Tectonic theory, has stated that Himalayas are result of tectonic movements.
So it has orginated from the Tethys Geosyncline . the sediments of this folded due to the northward movement of the Indian plate against the Eurasian Plate.
These have been in origin from about 65-70 million years ago.
The Himalayan range has been formed by many major and minor ranges that run parallel to each other .

The earth is composed of several plates. 1000 million years ago there was a single mass of land Pangia and a single water body panthalsa, the land was divided into two parts called Gondwana and Angara land by Tethy sea Gondwana land split into pieces and Indian plateau moved North-East and collided with Eurasian plate. Due to this collision folded mountains are formed. At present they are known as HIMALAYAS.
