When you breathe, you are taking in oxygen with each inhale and releasing carbon dioxide with each exhale. This gas exchange is important for respiration.
Major gases involved in respiration are Carbon dioxide and Oxygen.
The Oxygen which we inhale is transfered to wind pipe by which it is taken to lungs.
In lungs there are branch like structures present known as Bronchi.
Bronchi contains Alveoli in which major gas exchange takes place.
The Oxygen is exchanged with Carbon dioxide and then this Carbon dioxide is taken out from our body through same path.

RESPIRATION
Respiration is the chemical process, which involves breathing in oxygen , breathing out carbon dioxide & breakdown of food using oxide to release energy.
- All living organisms require energy to carry out various life processes . like nutrition, transport, excretion, reproduction, etc. This energy is stored in the food that we eat .
- In order to break down food to release energy oxidation of food takes place. This reaction takes place in the cells of the body of the organisms.
- The oxygen needed for the oxidation comes from the air that we inhale. This oxygen is then transported to every cell.
- Thus, the process in which food is broken down to release energy is called respiration. During respiration, carbon dioxide and water are released as waste - products.
