Hydroelectric Power Plants. The most common Hydroelectricpower plant uses an “Impoundment.” This is where a dam is built across a river which impounds the water behind it in a reservoir. This water is then released from the reservoir through a turbine, which spins and activates a generator whichproduces electricity.

Hydroelectricity is produced through the kinetic energy of water. Water is made to stand in a resorvoir in a large height so that it gains potential energy. Then the water is allowed to pass through a less area pipe so that the pressure gets increaced. This water is made to fall in a turbine and the kinetic energy of water gets converted to mechanical energy and then to electrical energy.
