Put your ring finger on the 1st string (high E), 3rd fret.
Keep your ring finger on the 1st string (as explained in step 1), place your pointer/index finger on the 5th string (A string), 2nd fret.
Keep your ring and index fingers in position, press your middle finger on the 6th string (low E), 3rd fret.
When chords are represented using guitar tablature, each string is represented with a dashed line, and the fret you are to press down for each string. You can see that for the high E (top of the tablature illustration), you are to press down the 3rd fret. Match the other strings and frets accordingly. A 0 means you play that string open, i.e. no frets are pressed down.E|-3---------------------------------------------------------------------B|-0---------------------------------------------------------------------G|-0---------------------------------------------------------------------D|-0---------------------------------------------------------------------A|-2---------------------------------------------------------------------E|-3---------------------------------------------------------------------When you have your fingers in position, strum your guitar, being sure to sound each string individually at first. Listen for clarity of sound - if a note sounds pinched or muted, adjust your fingers. Make sure you are not accidentally putting your fingers across other strings that are meant to be played open. It may take awhile to build the muscle strength and coordination to press just the one fret you need for each string. Practice until the chord sounds good.
