It has a long longitudinal and latitudinal extent. While the northern part of the country lie in subtropical zone, the southern part of the country is in tropical zone. While India has the Himalayas in the north, the southern part of the country is peninsula surrounded by sea from three sides. This has also resulted in varied temperature and climatic conditions in the north and southern parts of the country.
