The Prime Meridian of India passes from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh that is 82° 30' E. This is taken as Prime Meridian because if India has many Prime Meridian the country would have many time. This may make time confusing among the people.

Answer:

the time meridian of a country, take the westernmost longitude and the easternmostlongitude of that country, take the mean, and find the nearest multiple of 7.5 degree. AsIndia's longitudinal extent is from 68° 7' 53" E to 97° 24' 47" E. The mean comes out to be 82°46'20".
