Nearly a billion years ago, when Earth was formed, the supercontinent of Pangaea existed. At that time India and Australia together formed Gondwana land.

Due to the movement of tectonic plates, India and Australia broke apart and India became attached towards China and the rest of Asia, which resulted in the formation of the Himalayas.
