Federal government is divided into many subgoverments. like a+b+c=A for having a united military force to protect themselves from enemies.Example: USA (state govts. formed the central govt.)

Otherwise A can divide herself into a,b,c for an individual better administration for development and a central administration for unity Example:INDIA

(central is divided into many state govts.)

Unitary form of govt. is one where the entire nation is controlled by a single central govt.Example: GREAT BRITAIN.

the reason why the federal govt is preferred nowadays is that better individual administration and competitiveness among themselves can help the people with good govt.

Answer:

the difference between a unitary and a federal government is that a unitary government puts its power in one central government while in a federal system the governing power is divided into federal and local governing bodies that connect to the national government.
