how is a p-type semi-conductor produced

p-type semiconductor is formed by doping pure silicon with trivalent impurities such as boron, gallium etc. The trivalent atoms need an additional electron to form covalent bonds with the adjacent atoms or equivalently it removes an electron and introduces a hole in the semiconductor.
