Prime Minister of Republic of India is elected through General Elections.Members which are elected to Lok Sabha again elect the Prime Minister.He/She needs a minimum of 50% of support(or 272+),this means that to form a Government in India .A party needs to secure 272+ seats in the Lower House and thus the Prime Minister is elected.

Powers given to a Prime minister.
1)He has the power to appoint his/her cabinet.
2)The Prime Minister can resign anytime and can ask the President to dissolve the Cabinet.
3)He is the Speaker of the Central Government.
4)He decides the Foreign Policy of the Country.
5)Also,The Prime Minister is the Chief Advisor to the President of India.

❥The Prime Minister is appointed by the President, who also appoints other ministers on the advice of Prime Minister. The Council is collectively responsible to the Lok Sabha.
