A quadrilateral is a closed figure made of four straight lines (or) a closed figure consisting of four sides.

As square has four sides, it is a quadrilateral.

Some other specific(having certain properties) examples of quadrilateral are: trapezium, parallelogram, rhombus, rectangle, kite, etc.
