atom exhibits both wave nature and particle nature. the orbital is a 3D space where the probability of finding an electron is max. the wave nature of electron in the orbital can be well defined by wave function (Psi).

the wave function has no physical meaning.Davison and Germer were the 1st to prove wave nature of electron.the allowed electron to fall on nickel crystal and recorded the diffractive pattern which was similar to x ray pattern. since x ray is a wave , electrons are considered to be wave function
