Zygote

Single diploid eukaryotic cell formed by a fertilization event between two gametes

A zygote (from Greek ζυγωτός zygōtos "joined" or "yoked", from ζυγοῦν zygoun "to join" or "to yoke") is a eukaryotic cell formed by a fertilization event between two gametes. The zygote's genome is a combination of the DNA in each gamete, and contains all of the genetic information necessary to form a new individual. In multicellular organisms, the zygote is the earliest developmental stage. In single-celled organisms, the zygote can divide asexually by mitosis to produce identical offspring.

Zygote is the first result formed after fusion of male and female gametes i.e. sperms and egg respectively .

Fertilization in humans complete in 3 steps :

Acrosomal reaction

Cortical reaction

Amphimixis

Acrosomal & cortical reactions include the breaking of membranes of egg by the sperm for its entry .

Amphimixis stage include Zygote formation .

Male & female nucleus fuse to form Synkaryon or Zygote .

Gametes are haploid in nature i.e only set of chromosomes are present . Fusion makes the combination of both chromosomes makes the zygote diploid . Further growth of zygote to human body has a diploid nature only .
