How To Collect Ammonia
is necessary because water vapor is one of the products formed ammonia. gas being highly soluble in water has to be dried quickly to prevent it from dissolving dry. ammonia gas being lighter than air is collected in the inverted gas jar by the downward displacement of air calcium.

Amonnia is highly soluble in water. It is actually a very strong oxidizing agent. So, water can't be used for its collection. Amonia on the other hand is lighter than air. So, it is collected by the downward displacement of air
