How is carbon used in the extraction of iron from iron oxide?

Iron is extracted from iron ore in huge container called blast fernance. iron ores such as haematite contain iron 3 oxide Fe2O3 .the oxygen must be removed from the iron 2 oxide in order to leave the iron behind. reaction in which oxygen is removed are called reduction reaction
carbon is more reactive than iron, so it can displace iron 3 oxide.
