React chloromethane with alcoholic KOH it will give methane and KCl.

Catalytic conversion of chloromethane to methane:


Chloromethane can be converted into methane and propane catalytically in a fixed bed reactor by controlling the flow rates and pressure.


Silica-alumina activates Chloromethane but since the product is of high molecular weight, it gets broken down into methane and propane on exposure to acidic sites.
