How is climate of prairies different from that of velds

As prairies grow in tropical grasslands they are mainly located on the eastern external boundaries of the continents hence influenced by ocean currents the climate is humid and wet whereas velds grow temperate grasslands they are located on western external boundaries of continents hence the climate is dry and cool.
