when thick forest or land get submerged deep inside the earth for millions n millions of years and the rise of pressure and temperature converts the plants and animals into coal or petroleum

Coal we use now was formed about 300 million years ago,when much of the earth was covered by steamy swamps.As plants and trees died,tgeir remains sank to the bottom of the swampy areas,making layers of plants material and eventually firming a soggy ,thick material called PEAT.
Pressing the peat down and down further in the earth gradually changed the material to coal.This process take too much time..
