The concentration of hydronium ions decreases when an acid is dilutedbecause on adding water the H+ ions of the acid and hydroxyl ions of water react to form water molecules and the concentration of hydronium ions decreases.

Explanation: When the solution of acid is diluted the H+ ions are relesed from the acid to combine with H2O  and H3O+ ions is increased.
