Explanation:  Well India is a country of 1.2 billion population with so many religions, regions, climates and geographic diversity. Based on the above diversity especially environmental and geographic diversity different agricultural products are cultivated in different regions. And this has the major contribution towards the diversity of food in India.

You may notice in southern and eastern states of India rice is their staple food where as in north India roti/ chapati ( bread) is their main food. It is because those regions have climate suitable for cultivation of those food grains. This doesn't mean in south India they don't cultivate wheat or in north they don't cultivate rice. But the most produced food has become their staple food. Now you can see in West Bengal and Odisha seafood ( fish,prawn,crab etc) are mostly found as their food dishes and in Kerala or Tamil nadu you can find dishes of coconut.
