during convection energy is transferred through the movement of particles .
when we heat the water the molecules of water that are in contact of lower part of the container heated first and become light and moves upward and the cold particles takes its place and the process go on .
this is the reason that during winter sometimes the temperature of water present in lower part of bucket is less than the temperature of upper part .
