The food security is ensured in Indiaby two components:

Buffer Stock: buffer Stock is the stock of food grains namely wheat and rice produced by the govt by FCI. The FCI purçhases the food gains from farmers in the states where are surplus production.

Public Distribution System: The food procured by the FCI is distributed through govt. regulated ration shops among the poorer section of the society.This us called public distribution system.
