Chlorophyceae are one of the classes of green algae.

They are usually green due to the dominance of pigments such as chlorophyll- a, chlorophyll- b and beta- carotene.

Most of the members have one or more storage bodies called pyrenoids in the chloroplast.

Pyrenoids contains proteins and starch.

Some store food in the form of oil droplets.

Eg- 1)Chlorella produces food rich in proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.

2) It also yields antibiotic chlorellin.
