Friction is responsible for energy losses in that for in stance when moving parts of a machine are in working condition, the energy may be lost as a result of wear and tear of the parts of the machine as a result of friction.
These energy losses can be reduced by ensuring that the machine surfaces are oiled to reduce friction.
In other cases one may decide to use rollers for example when moving an object on the floor. This may tend to reduce friction as well.
