Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a form of hypermutation caused by defective DNA mismatch repair (MMR). ... MSI is assessed by measuring the lengths of a set of mono- and/or dinucleotide repeats in tumor and matched normal DNA. Several DNA-based clinical tests for MSI are in widespread use.
