At the federal level, the top of the administration, the prime minister, is designated by the President of India from the party or alliance that has the majority of support in the form of seats in the Lok Sabha.

Elections are administered by the Election Commission of India. The Prime Minister of India is chosen by members of the Lok Sabha,  which is known as the lower house of parliament.

India's parliament is based on the principle of Federalism. Selected administrators are designated at national, state and local levels.
