We all, or the majority of us, have a strong bias in favor of our families, especially our offspring. This good and helps us to raise our children.

In business however, we cannot fairly evaluate our children vs any other candidates. This is because we naturally think our child is better, faster, smarter, stronger and nicer than any other candidate. The result is your child gets a job where she or he is not the most qualified. And the most qualified candidate does not get the opportunity that she or he was the most qualified.

And in business, for most people, loyalty is to family first and the enterprise second. However at times the best course of action for an enterprise might be bad for family member; example, laying off, disciplining or firing family member. Then the enterprise suffers.
