Poverty is a state in which people do not have sufficient income to fulfill the basic necessities of life such as food, clothing and shelter.
Poverty as seen by the social scientists :
Illiteracy level, Lack of job oppurtunities, Lack of access to health care, Lack of general resistance due to malnutrition, Lack of access to safe drinking water, Sanitation etc.

usually it is seen through consumption and income level but now they also use factors like illiteracy level, lack of general ressistance ,lack of job opportunities etc.
