Sex in human is generally found to be determined by Y chromosome.

Presence of Y chromosome indicates male sex (XY) and absence of Y chromosome indicated female sex (XX).

During first few days of pregnancy ,every foetus was once a female.Y chromosome contains some potent male determining factor that induces the development of male gonads during gestation.

Later experiments by karyotyping the chromosome of sex reversed individuals ( XX males and XY females) shows that the SRY gene (sex determining region of Y chromosome) present in the Y chromosome was responsible for sex determination.

Y chromosome only in the presence of SRY gene induces maleness. This SRY gene in translocated into X chromosome in case of sex reversed individuals.Hence sex reversed males XX have a region of SRY gene translocated into X chromosome.Similarly sex reversed females XY lack the SRY gene.

SRY GENE DETERMINES SEX IN HUMAN BEINGS.
