heya!
here's your answer

I know that you must be talking of merchant of Venice isn't it?

well,
the merchant of Venice is a novel written by Shakespeare whose main protagonist is Antonio .

Shylock is basically a villain figure but with his own desires , needs and emotions

like ,
# he has deep rooted revenge thirst for Antonio because Antonio kicks , abuses and lends Money without interest which creates hatred in Shylock , Shylock days they he tolerates everything that Antonio does because patience is the badge of his race
this shows the difficulties he suffers

# another reason behind this maybe that his daughter Jessica eloped with a Christian Lorenzo without his consent alongwith the money and jewels he has earned throughout his life ..this also suggests his sorrow regarding his daughter and the ducats

# Shylock is also a tragic figure because in the end of the play ...we come to see at a point that all the wealth was confiscated which suggests his sorrow.

HOPE THAT THIS HELPS YOU
