Smith can be both praiseworthy and suspicious at the same time because the businessman's success at doing both things well is not an easy task to accomplish. Smith most likely finds the businessman's ease of accomplishing all of these things to be somewhat impossible because he himself has not been able to do the same time of thing as well as the businessman. A lot of people become suspicious of someone's success or wealth when they see someone else is successful at something that they may have been struggling with.
