Solar energy is better than thermal energy due to the following reasons.

1) Solar energy is a renewable resource of energy as it can be used to produce electricity as long as the Sun exists. While thermal power is no-renewable source of energy because coal is used to generate electricity.

2) Solar energy is an alternative for fossil fuels as it is non-polluting and clean source of energy. It does not pollute the environment by releasing harmful gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide or sulphur oxide. While high amount of carbon dioxide is produced in the atmosphere by the thermal power plants because the thermal power plants use coal to produce electricity..

3) Solar panels can be easily installed on a roof top and does not require wires or cords to produce electricity. While thermal engines require huge amount of lubricating oil, that is very expensive.

4) Solar energy is totally eco-friendly as it does not require any type of fuel to generate electricity. While thermal power stations are responsible for rising the sea levels because they emit carbon dioxide which is a green house gas and due to increasing quantity of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the Earth's temperature is rising.
