The iodine test is used to test for the presence of starch. Starch turns into an intense "blue-black" colour upon addition of aqueous solutions of the triiodide anion, due to the formation of an intermolecular charge-transfer complex. In the absence of starch, the brown colour of the aqueous solutionremains.

  • The iodine test is used to test for the existence of starch.
  • Starch revolve into an intense "blue-black colour" on the addition of tri-iodide aqueous solutions, due to the composition of an "intermolecular charge-transmission complex".
  • In the absence of starch, the brown colour of the aqueous solution left over.
  • Presence of starch in leaves can be certified by iodine test. Iodine turns starch solution into blue-black colour.
  • Pour some few drops of "dilute iodine solution" on the "boiled leaf".
  • The leaf turned into blue-black which certified the presence of starch in it. The starch is a carbohydrate.
