Great question! Let me explain the key difference.

While the Monarchy of the UK might seem very similar to the shiekdoms of the UAE, there is one key difference.

In the United Kingdom, the monarchy is more of a ceremonial role and the Queen does not hold any real power. Key laws are made in the parliament and many national decisions are made by the Prime Minister. There is complete and functional democracy.

In the UAE, there is no democracy and key rules, laws and legislation is  passed by the rulers of the emirates, without any parliamentary representation of the local population.

Hence, the UAE is a proper monarchy, while the UK is actually a democracy in principle.
