The people of China elect the 300 member of the 'National People's Congress'. This congress then elects the president of China. Only the ruling party and the representatives approved by it are allowed to contest in the elections.

In China, elections are held regularly after every 5 years for electing the parliament of the country called National People's Congress. The National People’s Congress has the power to appoint the president of the country. It has nearly 3000 elected members from all over China. Some members are also elected by the army. However, before contesting in the elections, a candidate requires the approval of the Chinese communist party. So only the members of the Chinese communist party or other eight parties allied to it can contest in elections. Government is always formed by the Chinese communist party.
