How is the working of an electric bell affected, if alternating current be used instead of direct current?

AC keeps on changing the polarity of the current and direction. While DC could not. And electric bulb in 1 sec blinks for almost 150 times and could not be seen by naked eye. Electric bulb can only be lit by changing it's polarity.
