How is a zygote formed?

The cells from each parent that combine to form the zygote are called gametes. In humans, the male gamete is called sperm, and the female gamete is called an egg. When the gametes join they form a cell called a zygote. Human sperm and eggs contain 23 chromosomes. Twenty-four hours after fertilization, the zygote contains two cells, and three days after fertilization the zygote has 16 cells and is called a morula. The cells continue to divide and form a hollow bundle called a blastocyst. The blastocyst implants in the endometrium, and the cells begin to form the embryo, with half the female and half the chromosomes completing the full set of genes.

1) when the sperm gets in contact with egg it forms zygote and the process is known as fertilization

2) the zygote formation takes place in oviduct

3) the zygote develops in embryo which further develops into the baby
