precipitation is quite less for human use……. Or……. An area where water is available in meagre amout for use.

Now….. Hot desert - an area where where precipitation is less because of high temperature, which evaporate whatever water is available in local water bodies.

Cold desert - an area where precipitation is less because of extremely less temperature or an area where water is stored in form of ice, so very less water is available for use.
